Vintage Tractors

Posted in Fall Field Work by farmnwife

Antique Tractor Club

Jack called William to ask if we had a field where the Vintage Ag Assoc. could run their old tractors and plows. The group’s members look for a place every fall to give their equipment a work-out.  Just to show every group has its tensions. Some antique tractor members say that other member’s tractors aren’t old enough. I wonder when the cut off date is? Here are some of the pictures I took and a quick video.

Judi, over here in UK, vintage tractors have to be built more than 50 years ago (1960 or before).

Classic tractors must have been built 25 years ago

I was privileged to have been asked to host our local vintage ploughing macth here two years running we had 96 vintage and classic tractors and ploughs, both held in April.(the maize stubble had rotted down a bit)

I have some aerial pictures on my web site. (find the page Tractors and everything Iron)

Some of the keenest plough men do not farm, only about a third are actually farm or work on a farm. they come from all walks of life.

I like the vidio, you got rather a lot of stubble to contend with.

Actually a little less stubble than normal. Because of the dry weather this summer and the fact this field was planted in early April there was not as much corn stalk material left in this field after harvest. We disced this field with a heavy disc before they came to plow and one tractor had an old disc that went over it a couple times for the smaller tractors and plows. Lots of fun watching these guys plow, they really enjoy it. And yes, most of these guys do not farm, just like old tractors.
I am also of the opinion it is vintage if it does not have a computer chip somewhere on the tractor.
